Carnival Time
My Island Culture. Most Caribbean islands celebrate Carnival. The largest and most well-known is in Trinidad and Tobago. However, it is widely celebrated in the United States as well, with the huge West Indian Labor Day Parade in New York as well as in Miami and let's not forget Toronto's Caribana. Many other islands like Antigua, Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Curaçao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Maarten, my home Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts, Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Saint Vincent, and the Grenadines hold lengthy carnival seasons and large celebrations.
Festivities include "jump-up" parades with costumes, floats, and live bands, as well as beauty contests and other competitions. Celebrations include a middle-of-the-night j'ouvert (juvé) parade that ends at sunrise. I wanted to celebrate carnival season with some of my designs that would work perfectly into your wardrobe for the celebrations.
